Ilya
Itin won First Prize and the Chopin Prize in the Ninth
Robert Casadesus Competition in Cleveland in 1991. In 1996, Itin
was the winner of the prestigious Leeds International Competition
by unanimous decision of the jury. He also claimed the Contemporary
Music Prize, as well as winning the hearts of the television audience
in the BBC’s viewers’ poll.
Itin has blazed a trail across Europe, from
France to Israel, and has received critical acclaim for his many
concerto and recital performances throughout the world. Reviewers
have been unanimous in their praise of his musicianship and charismatic
personality as a performer and communicator. He has performed with
the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra,
Prague Symphony Orchestra, Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, and the
Tokyo Philharmonic.
He has worked with leading conductors as diverse
as Christoph von Dohnanyi, Neeme Jarvi, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Michael
Pletnev, Valery Polansky and Sir Simon Rattle, under whose baton
he made a highly praised Vienna debut performing Rachmaninoff’s
Concerto No.3 as soloist on Rattle’s farewell European tour
with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
In the United States, Itin has given outstanding
performances with the Cleveland Orchestra and with the National
Symphony Orchestra. He gave an open-air performance of Tchaikovsky’s
Piano Concerto No.1 to an enthusiastic audience of over eight thousand
in California. His many acclaimed recitals in North America include
performances at Lincoln Center (New York) and the Kennedy Center
(Washington D.C.), as well as at festivals across the United States.
In 2002, he performed with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra at Alice
Tully Hall in Lincoln Center.
