The Chopin Society of Atlanta, a not-for-profit organization devoted to promoting music in metropolitan Atlanta, has Atlanta announced the winners of its third annual Atlanta Youth Chopin Competition.
The competition, held this November, is dedicated to Frederick Chopin's life and music. Competition was combined of two parts: in the written part students had to take a test based on Chopin's life and music and write an essay. The second part was a performing competition for students studying classical music.
The society's goal is to generate understanding and appreciation of Frederick Chopin's music and advance and promote the performance of Chopin's music by talented young musicians.
The society organizes "mostly Chopin" concerts that are usually held at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center in Roswell.
Such renowned pianists as Ilya Itin, Piotr Folkert, Adam Makowicz, Marek Drewnowski and Ingrid Fliter have performed and have been met with acclaim from metropolitan area classical music lovers. Many CSA concerts – usually sold out – are accompanied by related art exhibitions.
CSA is especially proud of its promotion of education through music and work with young people and children. CSA offers free tickets to music students for all their concerts. For information about CSA, see the Web site at www.chopinatlanta.org.
